Twelfth

Twelfth is a funny word. Here is a quote from Twelfth Night:

“O time, thou must untangle this, not I.
It is too hard a knot for me t'untie.”

I like that one.

Did you notice right away that today is 11/12/13? Do you think something magical will happen today?

Outside looks like this today:

And it feels so cold. Note: I'm back to Bean boots. I'll probably have those on my feet more often than not for the next five months! I am thinking I should pimp them out, by which I mean I should get some red shoe laces for them.

And inside looks like this:

Biggest, warmest sweater, hot cup of tea, pellet stove on five, attempting to focus and get some work done.

Today's telervision recommendation: Les Revenants, or The Returned. It's spooky, and it's about dead people coming back to life, but here's the thing. They're not zombies. It's subtle and odd in a French way, and yes it has subtitles, but I can almost guarantee you won't fall asleep.

things

new shoes, a $15 splurge. cause, stripes! espadrilles, n'est pas? i won't be able to wear them outside for months, but c'est la vie! it pleases me to look down and see them, all springy despite the thick gray tights.

lunching with two of my favorite ladies, a new monthly event to look forward to. i made these cupcakes in honor of emily's birthday. i was nervous about them because i can't find the soy milk powder that's one of the secret ingredients of the fluffy vegan creme filling, but i made an inspired substitution and they were delicious.

daffodils from emily, which opened immediately. aren't they the most optimistic kind of flower? kind of determined, i think.

and then, there's this: why can't i slip and slide on the sidewalk icy patches in silence? why do i have to exclaim, "wha!" or "yeeep!" or "gaaa!"?

i have wildfire stuck in my head, two days after it installed itself there.

speaking of which, i would not turn down the opportunity to ride a horse on a beach one day.

this book was so good. short stories, 80 percent of which i bitterly regretted weren't novels, i was so deeply invested in them.

if you invited michael k. williams over to your house to watch a movie and eat popcorn, what movie would you want to watch?

days go by

art magically appears on the chalkboard door in the kitchen.

i go to the post office, where my favorite thing is checking our box. i think the post office boxes are gorgeous and kind of mysterious.

boo acquires additions to his wardrobe. some of these items are green.

i take minnow to the vet for his lyme vaccine. we both love her, because she sits on the floor with him, lets him lick her entire face, and says, "who's the best dog in the whole world? you are. you are."

perchance to dream

now i know that i definitely dream in color, because i dreamt last night of these shoes of mine, red and pink pumas that were really fabulous when i got them about seven years ago, and are now very old, worn nearly smooth on the bottoms. in my dream, i was in an elaborate relay race of some kind, and anxiety was looming within me because i knew i was going to have to run a mile, and i was going to have to run it on slippery wet leaf-strewn paths in these shoes.

Nine

*i am still doing this.

*i am also still doing this, but i have fallen thousands of words behind.

*thanks to the awesome shopping skillz of my friend mama d, who found me free shipping and discount codes, the red boots have been ordered and are on their way!

*i like marvin gaye and all, but don't you agree that this is the least sexy song of all time? what would you do if someone leaned into your sleeping ear and said, "wake up wake up wake up wake up because you do it right"?

*did i tell you that the dog ban didn't pass? m and i took minnow to willard beach yesterday to celebrate!

*in other minnow news, he and i now have an official song. which means i sing it to him, and he wags his tail. also, plans are in the works to have that thingy removed from his eye and his teeth cleaned.

red boots

my mom gave me some birthday bucks that i've been saving for a treat for myself. so here is my question to you: do i really want these shiny red vegan boots? or do i not?

technological first grader

i forgot to mention that several weeks ago, my friend janet gave me un grand cadeau: the stylish crocs which had caught my eye! they are silver and very chic (although crocs). and no, i don't actually have too many shoes.

i hadn't posted about it before because i am, in fact, a technological first grader. although i have a bit of a reputation among the hip 10-15 year olds i know as a blog guru, i don't actually know how to do much of anything. i can write the code to open a link in a new window, but that's about my biggest claim to fame. without my trusty sidekick, my picture-ma-phone, i am unable to post photos to my blog. unless a certain someone helps me. thus, i haven't been able to photograph my feet. i can use the camera, i just don't know how to attach the cord thingy to the computer and then figure out where the pictures went on the computer and then get the pictures to my blog. i am willing to learn, though, which is why i'm no longer a technological kindergartener.

the easter bell flew in from rome yesterday and brought of the chocolate! also, jelly bellies, little candles, and many other pretties, using these as easter baskets. such a clever bell!

on saturday night, dancer lady and her offspring came over to play games. if bean had been quicker with the video camera, you could see the scary thing that happens when three adults pantomime the word "popcorn."

summer shoes

i never thought i would say this, but i kind of want a pair of these, um, crocs. i have been so vehemently anti-crocs ever since they started taking over the world, but these are actually cute, and vegan. maybe an alternative to my standard summer flip-flops (less likely to be swept away in a gullywasher, no?).
