my favorite toy

playing around with MYphone -- i paid actual money (a dollar ninety-nine of it) to get this hipstamatic application. it makes cool old-style pictures, see? i love the rounded edges and square shape of the one below. it reminds me of a shoebox full of old photos.

you, me

my very favorite form of virtual winter window shopping is browsing etsy for wonderful things and marking them as favorites. then i like to procrastinate by browsing again through the amazing things in my list (though i have to admit i am not much of an actual money-spending-type shopper). looking at my favorites, it's clear that i'm a sucker for certain bears, birds, rabbits, dogs, and deer. also gorgeous photographs of summery scenes (now, anyway -- let's see what happens in the summertime). also maps, silver, people with animal heads, and lovely pieces of art and jewelry made by people i know.

today, i am liking this letterpress card, a bold and unsentimental valentine's day message. actually, everything bread + butter makes is pretty cool.

wordle

here's my awkward screen grab of my very own word cloud that i made at wordle. isn't it cool? although, it truly is alarming how large the words teeth and dentist are. thanks for the tip, dad!

my brain on the internets

wasting time on the internets this morning. now i'm off to sew my heart out, but first i have to share this missed connection from craigslist. it's a joke, but there are a whole bunch of caucus-related ones that are adorable (i.e. "a couple of times I looked over and we exchanged smiles. maybe it was just being friendly. whatever those "looks" were, i'm glad i saw them because your eyes are stunning. so, obama or clinton?").

more google fun

i just have to add that i googled bean and found:

- a four year-old british girl who is fighting leukemia.

- an eighteen year-old british girl who is "lookin for laughs and more" and is "single n lookin" and is "happiest when with mates."

- an eleven year-old homeschooled girl who isn't fond of math.

when i googled boo, i discovered:

- a canadian farmer born in 1910, active in the mennonite church before his death in 1984.

- a board member of the pennsylvania german folklore society of ontario.

- i scored a picture of him, too! right here -- he's on the far right, with the cool 'fro.

the least decisive man in the world

just came into the cafe. he dithered and considered for a good five minutes, then he asked me bunches of questions (how much would a "cha cha" be? is there coffee in an "almond joy?" how about a mocha? is there coffee in that?) agonizing over his choice, before settling on a cup of brewed coffee. then he agonized over whether he wanted a 12 or a 16 ounce. then he hemmed and hawed over what kind of coffee he wanted, eventually settling reluctantly on vanilla hazelnut. then when i asked him if he wanted me to leave some room for milk or cream, he debated that in his mind, too. seriously, wouldn't you at least know right off the bat whether or not you put cream in your coffee?? and i say this as an occasionally pathologically indecisive person myself. it took this man a good twenty minutes to enter an empty cafe and purchase a cup of coffee.

he was wearing what looked like a pilot uniform, sort of. i tracked down his occupation online.

please come visit me and buy some vegan whoopie pies!

lost in the interweb

i can't quite get anything worthwhile started this morning, because while researching puppies for my mom, who just may be in the market for one (but not just any old puppy), i became wrapped up in the bizarre goings-on at puppiesandponies.

in my research, i learned the true identity of our minnow dog (previously believed to be a "north american smiling spaniel"). he is officially recognized by the american canine hybrid club as a "comfort retriever." which led me to puppiesandponies, also known as c&s ranch, run by a christian homeschooling family. they breed a scary number of different kinds of dogs, plus ponies. and cats. on the home page, the mom has a lot to say, including:

"Okay, we are now raising some cross breeds. YES!!!!! Many of you are thrilled! Some of you are really nasty and mean to me about it. That's okay, you need Jesus too to help you with your anger problem."

then if you're so bold as to click on prayer req and tidbits, you learn way too much about the folks at puppiesandponies:

"Please pray for K & D both need salvation and to be delivered from their sin. Their marriage needs to be restored and their children need the stability of a real family. Please pray that God work in a mighty way for this young family....... 2-5-07

Please pray for the woman that is harrassing us.......God is doing a work here and we need to pray that His will be done in her life (as well as ours as this has been QUITE a faith building experience! To God be the Glory!!) and that she learns whatever it is that He wants her to learn. That she is able to let go of the anger and bitterness within her soul that drives her to hurt others. Pray for her TRUE salvation and TRUE repentance. Pray that she learns Gods proper order and that God Himself put "man" above the animals. Also that not all raising of animals is bad. God loves every child in my home far more then any animal on this earth. He required MANY animal sacrifices to save His people. Then finally Jesus came as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Matthew 10:31 Says "Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."

inspiring

an inspiring story about a suburban, car-driving, house-buying couple who gave it all up to buy a condo in downtown seattle. reminds me of my mom and dad.

this is making me laugh.

here's a story from my high school alma mater -- i think the "three defiant teens" are pretty inspiring, and i think their principal is no pal.

in other news, i made the moon last night!
