*well, my crazy kids think it's the best snack, anyway.

ah yes! here's the basic recipe: cut up a bunch of white or yellow onions. chop garlic, grate ginger. all amounts equate to "a bunch of." saute these in generous amount of sesame oil for a quite a long time. glug in a bunch of tamari and a little mirin, then a big spoonful of toban jan (available at asian markets - it's a japanese chili paste). cook and taste and cook some more. cut into cubes some firm or extra firm tofu (use one package for 2-3 people, two for four or more. often i'll use three for a crowd). throw this in with the onions, and cook til the tofu jiggles. serve with rice.
