thanks to m, who started recording every single episode of independent lens on pbs after watching the kind of heartbreaking operation filmmaker, i saw please vote for me yesterday, a documentary about an "experiment in democracy" in a third grade chinese classroom. it's absolutely fascinating -- funny and a little shocking at times.
