i actually have a couple of pitiful stories i could tell, but let me tell this one: m and i went out this evening to shovel the precipitation, which can best be described as a dirt-flavored sno-cone big enough for a giant, out of the mouth of our hideous driveway. we had one shovel for scooping and one for hacking at the icy spots. i was manning (womanning, actually) the metal, hacking shovel, and to get at the enormous mound of sno-cone, i perched atop a mountain of "snow" aside the driveway. a car came by, speeding to catch the green light, and hit this huge puddle at just the right angle, drenching both m and me with what felt like five gallons of icy water. from our heads down to our feet. the water hit me in such a way that it splashed merrily into the pocket of my coat, filling it, and KILLING THE CELLPHONE WITHIN.
hence, no photographs will be included with this pitiful story. if you'd like to call and commiserate, try my land line.
i am keeping in mind the time my bruddy washed his cellphone in the washing machine (uh, actually it was my washing machine, and i may be blocking out the part where it was my fault, too), and the cellphone lived. i have my fingers crossed. meanwhile, i am consoling myself with katamari and some peanut butter-fudge brownies i just baked.

That is so very sad. Let it dry out completely for a couple of days and then try it again! My phone went through the ALL the cycles of the washing machine so I have hope.
curses on that rude person.
my phone survived through a summer version of yours. was strange for a while and isnt'quite the same but still works.
oh, no! what a horrible end to a special wish day. my cell phone went thrice through the wash cycle a few days ago, and i too am holding out hope.
are there signs of recovery?
That's awful! I think there should be a giant speed bump right in front of your house! Your description of the snow is totally accurate, and poetic as well. Char and I shoveled yesterday around 2:00 and, although nobody splashed us, we were soaked to the skin by the time we finished. I'll be thinking of your phone--so far Charlotte's isn't in working order, but it did go three times through the washing maching.
Janet, I *love* that you spelled it washing maching- evokes the actual process, don't you think? I shall always refer to mine as my washing maching in future ! meanwhile, I was thrilled to receive a call from the street-mached cell phone today !
I hope that lattle thang is ok
