farewell, tappan zee

well, not quite yet, but it's going to get a sixteen billion dollar replacement. and it's a little alarming to read it described as "substandard," when i routinely ignore the advice of google maps and go out of my way to cross the tappan zee (instead of the *shudder* george washington) every time i drive westward.
also, what would really rosie think?

I had one of my most horrendous driving episodes ever on the Tappan Zee, my Plymouth Horizon shuddering, engine sputtering, gale-force winds lofting us, thunder and lightning crashing all around. I was sure my car was going to end up in the Hudson. Ya know how LONG that damn bridge is? That day, as long as the Wall of China!
