i was baking a whole bunch of cupcakes last night, including these orange cakes filled with orange pudding, later to be topped with chocolate ganache:
when suddenly, a belated birthday package arrived at my door! it was full of all kinds of wonderful birthday presents from david and ellen, including these beauties, knitted specially for me:
yay, ellen! they'll keep my hands warm, and also, no one will be messing with me now. i love them! i also love my knitted tofu, so sweet. okay, bean, add it to the cute list -- because despite the fact that david called it "weird," what could be nicer? it's knitted, it's tofu, it has a big blue L on it, and it's a pincushion.
and there was MORE...my very own carrboro t-shirt (i am wearing it right now):
and amy sedaris's book:
signed by amy, too -- she likes me! actually, below this she gave me some top secret cupcake baking advice, since david filled her in on my cupcaking:
thanks, david and ellen!! i love my birthday box. you guys really made my day!

What a great birthday package! I now have 4 of those orange/chocolate ganache cupcakes in my possession, so keep posting! Haven't tasted them yet, but I know they'll be delicious.
i can't wait to hear how you like them! i only tasted 1/2 of one (split it with m), but i thought it was pretty darn tasty. i'm curious how they do at room temp for a while (i put them in bean and boo's lunchboxes today, but i neglected to cover them with plastic wrap, and the chocolate was messy and all over the lids of their lunchboxes...
those are the CUTEST birthday gifts for the CUTEST birthday girl !
you can borrow my book when i'm done. it's SO funny.
