boo's lunch for the first day of fifth grade: homemade pesto, lettuce, and provolone on ciabatta (i gave him a whole sammich, it was just prettier to photograph like this), a locally grown organic apple, two mini-blueberry muffins (the result of muffin-baking experiments in progress), and orange juice on the side. he's also got a backpack full of supplies, including brand new skinny markers, perfectly sharp pencils and colored pencils, and notebooks full of crisp, blank lined pages. and a copy of "dune" for independent reading. and a bus to catch at 8:12!

GOURMET! Do these kids realize how good they've got it? Back in my day it was a turkey sandwhich, a watermelon capri sun, and carrot sticks. I often also ate a friend's white bread pb&j (with CREAMMMMY peanut butter). Also, I had to walk the 10 miles to school...
i loved those squishy flat white bread/smooth pb/grape jelly sandwiches!
